Developmental Edit

developmental-editIn my content edit, I take a close look at all the elements that make up your story—pacing, voice, characterization, plot structure, organization, continuity—and work directly with you, the author, to strengthen these foundational pieces into the best version of your manuscript. I’ll also leave reader reactions throughout the chapters, engaging with you as a reader to let you track how your audience will respond to your story.

This service is designed for manuscripts that have already been carefully assessed and revised by the author and critique groups and is ready for a final polish before seeking representation.

The Process

Working off of an editorial calendar that fits your schedule, we’ll start off assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your project before moving to chapter-by-chapter edits. I’ll leave revision suggestions and minor tweaks in Microsoft Track Changes, so you can see everything I’ve touched in your document. As an editor, it’s my job to uplift and polish your manuscript, but if there’s something you don’t like, you can always reject the change—I will always honor your artistic vision. When we’ve finished your project, you’ll get a whole manuscript with the final drafts already assembled in one clean file.

Working with Scrivener? No problem! Let me know if you’ve been using Scrivener as your project host and we’ll use my unique editing process to use the full power of Scrivener in our project.
