Service Overview
Our proofreads are performed after a manuscript has been copyedited and typeset for print and ebook. Proofreads are the final pass to look for any lingering spelling or grammar errors while ensuring that nothing was missed or corrupted in the design process. We care about the aesthetics of each page we proof in addition to the mechanics of your words.

The hard part was finishing my manuscript. The easy part was turning it over to Amber Helt at Rooted in Writing to get me to the finish line. Service Notes
We never have the same editor work on both the copyedit and the proofread. A new round of edits calls for new eyes and a fresh perspective.
Sample Edit
We do not offer sample edits for proofreads. If you would like a sample edit on our grammar editing skills, please ask us about our copyediting samples.
Deliverables
Manuscript Revision Suggestions
Our proofreads are performed by leaving comments on the print edition’s typeset PDF in Adobe Acrobat. Once you’ve received your edits, you will review the suggested changes, replying to comments that ask for more information from you or to tell us to “stet” a suggested change.
Design File Updates
When you have finished your review of the proofread, you’ll send the PDF back to Amber so she can update the design files with the revised content. After that, you’ll receive your final, clean PDF and EPUB files for publishing. If you would like any additional changes to the content after this delivery, additional fees may apply.
Rates & Dates
Final edits will be returned after 3-5 weeks, depending on the word count and the manuscript’s condition. We charge $0.02 per word for proofreading. For industry comp, check out the EFA’s rate chart.
