The Florist
Editing Service Package for Self-Publishing Authors
Line Edit • Copy Edit
Sometimes you don’t need a Story Gardener; you’ve got your own green thumb. You’ve taken the time to develop your story, nurturing its plot tendrils and encouraging its most fragrant blooms that will enchant readers as they stop to smell the prosies. Now it’s our turn. Let us come in with our red pens to prune and arrange your manuscript into a market-ready bouquet.
This package is perfect for authors who want to have a line and copy edit performed on their manuscript without sacrificing the services’ individual depth and attention to detail that comes from a combined line and copy edit. A line edit on its own can spend so much more time working on your voice and narrative flow while also giving you the opportunity to learn from our comments and make final revisions to your flow before we begin an intensive review of your grammar, continuity, and global uniformity.
Growing evergreen novels and perennial authors
Exclusive Author Support Services for our Editorial Packages
An evergreen product is something that maintains market value for seasons and years to come. We’re not here to help you put out a book that hits today’s trends but falls apart under literary criticism. At Rooted in Writing, we’re here to edit, educate, empower, and enfranchise our authors in not just a trendy grove but the entire publishing landscape.
A perennial plant is one that comes back season after season. The dictionary attributes perennials with descriptions of “endurance” and “continually recurring.” At Rooted in Writing, we’re here to cultivate and nurture an author’s career so it thrives season after season, title after title. No matter where you’re at in your publishing journey—whether you’re a debut author or a seasoned backlister—we will meet you where you’re at with the services you need to bloom brighter and fuller than ever before. You’re not a marigold; you’re a rose.
In our editing packages, each service comes with an in-service author support module that provides you, the author, with additional support or education on an aspect of publishing or marketing. While your editor is working within the manuscript, you’ll meet with your project manager Amber to develop your launch materials for publishing. These modules are linked to specific editing services to provide you with the relevant support you need during that stage of the manuscript’s development. These modules will flow organically to help you build a successful launch for your novel. For each editing service, you can select one module type:
“Sapling” support modules for debut authors or authors still learning the ropes of publishing.
“Established” support modules for experienced authors looking to expand their platforms.
What’s Included
Line Edit
Service Overview:
A line edit addresses issues found in a novel’s pacing, voice and tone consistency, character voice in dialogue, word choice, presentation of tension, and other corrections dealing with the general narrative flow. As we go through the line edit, we leave comments in the novel to explain the changes we’ve made, the writing technique behind the changes, and occasionally additional resources for you, the author, to check out. Our goal is for you to strengthen your already-developed authorial voice and to bring your character’s personalities to the forefront of your novel’s POV.
Author Support Modules
Sapling & Established: Blurb Copywriting
We’ll write your blurb (also called the back cover copy) for your novel and provide two rounds of revisions. This back cover copy includes a tagline and a 150-200 word blurb meant to go on the back cover of your novel and entice readers to find out what happens next.
Copy Edit
Service Overview:
A copy edit looks at the grammar, style, word choice, and other “gritty details” of the prose. This edit should be done only after you are happy with the structure and development of the book’s content. The focus of our copy edits is to perfect the mechanics of your content without sacrificing your unique authorial voice.
Author Support Modules
Sapling: Build Your ARC Team
An ARC team is a group of readers who receive an Advanced Review Copy (ARC) of your novel prior to release in exchange for honest reviews. We’ll teach you how to build one of these teams and give you the tools you need to successfully utilize them.
Established: Manage Your ARC Team
If you already have an ARC team from prior releases, then you can have Rooted in Writing take over the admin work of distributing your ARC copies and creating the email sequence leading up to your launch day. We’ll make sure your readers feel supported and part of your official team for your novel’s big day.
Common Questions
How much time is between each service?
We schedule two weeks between the day you receive your line edits and the day we start the copy edit. This gives you ample time to review the edits and make your necessary revisions before we move forward.
If you need a different review period duration, please let us know during your onboarding process so we can schedule our editors’ time accordingly. Once we begin the first editing service, it will be difficult to lengthen this review period. If you need more time than what we scheduled for once you get the edits back, we can start your next service at our soonest opening, which may be longer than your requested start time.
What if I want a different module?
You can request a different module from your publishing path menu before you sign the project contract. If you are a debut author, we strongly recommend you stick to the trail and follow the suggested modules in our recommended order.
Can I do more than one module?
You can purchase additional in-service modules for your project. Please contact us for pricing, as the fee depends on the module you’d like to purchase and the editing package in your project.
Do I have to pay for my in-service support module?
The in-service author support module attached to your editing service is included in your project’s invoice at no additional charge. If you choose not to pursue the in-service module, the cost of the editing service is not affected.
If I already have these resources, will you review what I have instead?
Absolutely! Just let us know and we’ll happily review and critique the materials you have. It’s always nice to have a second set of eyes on something before publishing.
